Ray Guntrip biography

Like many other composers, Ray Guntrip, pianist, grand piano, organ and Fender Rhodes, band leader of his seven piece band, whose performances draw on a number of styles and traditions in creating a fresh, distinctive sound conjured up by his musical ideas and arrangements and not least by the musicians Ray Guntrip chooses to work with, such as Gary Barnacle, sometime tenor-sax player with Tina Turner and Level 42, as well as a host of other big names, from Jamiroquai to David Bowie, The Clash and Phil Collins; Julian Siegel, tenor sax; Alan Barnes, various saxes; Stuart Brooks, trumpet, who has been a Mike Westbrook regular and featured in George Russell’s bands; Enrico Tomasso, trumpet; Nick Carter, alto sax; Alec Dankworth, bassist; John Worthington, soprano sax; John Rangecroft, tenor sax; Dave Harvey, flute and soprano sax; Steve Botting, trombone; Roberto Bellatala, double bass; Tony Bianco, drums; Mark Nightingale, trombonist of choice for many groups, including Steely Dan; John Willis, drums; Steve King, bass, percussion and vibraphone; Neil Francis, electric bass; Damian Hawker, guitar; John Peel, flugelhorn; Lawrence Fletcher, bass clarinet; and Laura Knight, backing.  Ray Guntrip has also worked and recorded with the renowned international jazz vocalist, Tina May, who has been involved in musical projects with legendary pianist, Ray Bryant, and Bobby Watson.
